Diana Krall – A Case of You (Joni Mitchell Cover) Just before our love got lost you said I am as constant as the northern star And I said, constantly in the darkness Where’s that at If you want me I’ll be in the bar On the back of a cartoon coaster In the blue TV screen light I drew a map of Canada Oh, Canada With your face sketched on it twice Oh, you’re in my blood like holy wine You taste so bitter and you taste so sweet Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling And still be on my feet I’d still be on my feet Oh, I am a lonely painter I live in a box of paints I’m frightened by the devil And I’m drawn to those ones that ain’t I remember that time you told me Love is touching souls Surely you touched mine Part of you pours out of me In these lines from time to time Oh, you’re in my blood like holy wine You taste so bitter and you taste so sweet Oh, I could drink a case of you, I could drink a case of you, darling And still be on my feet And still be on my feet I met a woman she had a mouth like yours She knew your life She knew your devils and your deeds And she said, go to him Stay with him if you care But be prepared to bleed Oh, you’re in my blood like holy wine You taste so bitter and you taste so sweet Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling And still be on my feet I’d still be on my feet
I think she completely misses the power in the lyrics by just washing past them like they are a exercise for her jazz studies class. From the beginning, she didn’t paint me a picture.
“I knew a woman”….where’s the impact in that line. It has so much to say, she didn’t.
Love her voice and her, but not this jazz exercise.
the first time i heard this cover i didnt like it, i didnt understand it….but now when i hear it i feel better. im no music expert, but when ive had a bad day or its cold and stormy outside, i listen to this and i feel better…thanks diana
A very respectful interpretation – she’s paid attention to the original. However, she’s taken the song to a level that I think surpasses the original. Good stuff.
The original song was so good. I don’t like this cover. It would never have been a hit if this was the original. I love this of Ladies piano playing and her voice but this song is not for her. She is too jazy and this song doesn’t suit such a treatment. I ‘d like to hear the piano solo and no singing from this artist.
@MrDavis746 WHat about another Canadian ICON KD Lang. She also sings this beautifully. Well, KD masters everyy song, that goes without saying in my opinion.
This is such a beautiful rendition. I am quite the Joni Mitchell purist. And yet, this moved me so much. Thanks for sharing this.
Yep. Misses the mark. Badly.
I want to see her face while I am listening to her perform….
One of my favorite covers of Joni’s music ever!
Absolutely. If it were possible to explain the beautiful irony that is lost in this cartoon the singer would be embarrassed.
I love heariong different flavors of such a beautiful song….
Too many chords, too many notes, too much rubato, no groove. Listen to Joni. Less is more…..
not workin for me … what’s her hurry … too rushed … stilted … ahhhhhhhh
she’s lost in the doarkness of the melody …
not workin for me … what’s her hurry … too rushed … stilted … ahhhhhhhh
She sings with such emotion…such an artist. Just saw her…LOVE!!
missing the point horribly!
its perfectly crafted and performed. but that’s just my take.
Absolutely agree.
Ugh, Corona Winterguard. Making cry for years.
Wow, this is terrible, she sings it kinda lazy like a drunk sailor, I’m not feeling this one at all. Miss “don’t have song of you’re own” Krall better leave this song alone.
If you want to hear a unique and absolutely beautiful cover of this song listen to the version that Prince has done. I kid you not, you will be blown away.
Have a nice day.
Hello! this piece is in F Major.
Homone Sergiu
what key is this in????
This reminds me of Cassandra Wilson’s treatment of Witchita Lineman. It is a completely different approach — not to be compared to anything but to be inhaled slowly, deeply and experienced. Thanks for posting.
absolutely stunning!
I usually love what Diana Krall does, but I really don’t like this cover. It seems to respect nothing of the original nor offer anything worthwhile to replace it. Shame.
